WE-CARE Foundation transforms education across Liberia through innovative programs. We run the WE-CARE Library, one of Liberia’s few public libraries, distribute free books, train teachers and librarians, publish culturally relevant books, and promote foundational literacy. Our initiatives, like story hours for kids and accelerated learning for overage girls, foster a love for reading and empower communities.
WE-CARE Foundation, a Liberian not-for-profit, was founded in 1992 amidst the brutal civil war. For 33 years, we’ve operated in 10 of Liberia’s 15 counties, transforming education by publishing children’s books, distributing resources, and establishing libraries. It started with a book chain program where people could take books from, WE-CARE and, after reading, share them with others without returning them. We hoped that as people, especially young people, read, they would be too busy to fight or hurt each other. Today, we continue fostering literacy and community engagement across urban and rural areas.
