WE-CARE Publishing
Since its establishment, the PUBLISHING ARM has been dedicated to producing educational resources that empower Liberian children, educators, and communities by fostering a love for reading
and learning.
The WE-CARE Foundation Liberia’s Publishing unit is a cornerstone of its mission to strengthen the education sector through high-quality, culturally relevant reading materials. Since its establishment, the unit has been dedicated to producing educational resources that empower Liberian children, educators, and communities by fostering a love for reading and learning.
The Publishing unit has produced over 40 titles tailored to various educational levels, including early childhood education (ECE), primary, and secondary education. These titles span a wide range of genres and subjects, from storybooks that ignite imagination to academic texts that support Liberia’s national curriculum. Each book is crafted to be both educational and engaging, ensuring that young readers develop foundational literacy skills while connecting with content that reflects their cultural and social realities.
The production process involves a highly skilled in-house team of trained writers, illustrators, book designers, and editors who work meticulously to create visually appealing and pedagogically sound materials. To maintain high standards, WE-CARE collaborates with external editors and international consultants who bring global expertise in children’s literature and educational publishing.
A hallmark of WE-CARE’s publications is their cultural relevance. The Publishing unit prioritizes stories and illustrations that reflect Liberia’s diverse heritage, incorporating local folktales, historical events, and everyday life in urban and rural settings.
WE-CARE also emphasizes inclusivity. The unit has developed innovative Early Childhood Education eBooks that include regular text, sign language videos, and audio narration, catering to diverse learning needs, including children with hearing impairments or those who benefit from auditory learning. These eBooks are designed to support early childhood education by providing interactive and accessible resources for parents, teachers, and young learners.
The Publishing unit is not only a producer of books but also a hub for capacity building. WE-CARE has invested in training local writers, illustrators, and editors. These training programs cover storytelling techniques, illustration styles suitable for children, book design principles, and editorial standards. By nurturing local talent, WE-CARE reduces reliance on external resources and builds a cadre of professionals capable of producing high-quality educational materials long-term.
Looking ahead, the Publishing unit aims to expand its digital offerings, producing more eBooks and interactive resources to reach remote areas. WE-CARE plans to deepen its partnerships with international organizations to access cutting-edge publishing technologies and further train local staff. Additionally, the unit seeks to increase its catalog of secondary-level books, addressing the needs of older students and aligning with Liberia’s evolving curriculum.
