Reading Liberia Program
At Dominic Hena School in Kakata, Margibi County, an innovative reading strategy is reshaping how students engage with books. By encouraging students to visit the library, teachers are fostering a culture of reading that goes beyond classroom assignments. Teachers skillfully captivate students' interest by pausing storytelling at the most thrilling moments and urging them to complete the books on their own in the library during recess. This approach has sparked curiosity, independence, and enthusiasm for reading.
Outstanding Results and Impact
The results of this creative approach are inspiring. Remarkably, 98% of the GALI girls were promoted to the next grade by the end of the first semester, demonstrating the effectiveness of the program. The school's library, stocked with books generously provided by RL 20/20, serves as a vital resource for 455 eager learners from grades 1 to 6.
Empowering the Future
Dominic Hena School's reading initiative exemplifies how strategic innovation in education can empower young minds. As students develop a love for reading, they also build essential skills that will serve them throughout their academic journeys and beyond. The success of this approach is a powerful testament to the impact of creativity, dedication, and community support.
